Partial release of EHDS (European Health Data Space) related materials
NFI has been researching trends in health data-related systems in Europe in order to consider the legal system necessary for the utilization of medical data in Japan. Regarding the trends in Europe, the European Health Data Space (EHDS) bill was published in May 2022, and after subsequent discussions (trilateral dialogue) between the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the EU, a final agreement was reached in 2024.
The research on EHDS that NFI has conducted to date and the activities of the European Research Special Working Group are as follows:
European Research Special Working Group
We investigate and analyze trends in health data-related systems in Europe. European system trends have been particularly dynamic in recent years, with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) bill being published in May 2022. We recruit special members on an annual basis and carry out our activities.
FY2021: EC Report Analysis (Impact Assessment of Health Data)
FY2022: Analysis of the EHDS Bill (EC proposal) and first European field survey
FY2023: Analysis of the EHDS Bill (EP Amendment)
FY2024 (planned): Analysis of the EHDS Law and the 2nd European Field Survey Research Director: Akira Morita
NFI will publish provisional translations of two of the above key documents, which were prepared during the WG's review process. These translations will be updated accordingly.
Please note that the provisional translations are intended to provide a quick understanding of each document and do not guarantee the quality of the translation. Furthermore, due to the large volume of the documents, we have not been able to thoroughly revise them given our limited resources. However, we believe that these documents are worth sharing with as many people as possible, even with such limitations. We hope that you will take a look at these documents and learn about the current state of the system in Europe.
Research into the latest trends in EHDS is made possible with the support of members of NFI's European Research Special Working Group. NFI has also compiled and analyzed the "Impact Assessment of Healthcare Data Use under GDPR" and provisional translations of each version of the EHDS bill, and is sharing knowledge among members (*1). Additionally, we are planning to conduct on-site research in Europe this year, and are currently seeking companies and organizations willing to participate in the research (*2).
